The Dalston Mural

Clowns & Clubs

Once a strong Jewish area, Dalston now has a colourful African/Caribbean street market, Turkish restaurants and lively nightlife which includes the Vortex jazz club, Arcola theatre and Grade II* listed Rio cinema, once patronised by Bob Hoskins. Beautiful churches include “the Cathedral of the East End”, admired by Sir John Betjeman, and the church where Clowns International hold their annual service. There is a community garden and even a Farm Shop, with mini ‘aquaponic’ fish farms and rooftop chicken coops, next to the new apartment blocks with views to the City.
