Westminster Abbey

The ‘Royal Peculiar’

Once a royal abbey, the abbey church has been scene of every Coronation from William the Conqueror; also royal funerals, including Princess Diana’s. Recent royal weddings were those of HM Queen Elizabeth II and William and Kate, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

See the Coronation Chair, the glorious fan vaulted ceiling in King Henry VII’s chapel, many royal tombs and monuments and Poets’ Corner, where Charles Dickens, George Frederick Handel and many others are buried and commemorated. Westminster Abbey is normally open for visits on weekdays and Saturday mornings. Sundays are reserved for church services.
